A few points from a leaving old-school gamer

Due to real life situations, I am having to leave Rift. Been fun, and enjoyed the game quite a bit, but as I have always told my fellow guildies in the Guardians of Light, "Real life should always come first". And as such, it is my time especially since it is a family related issue and appears to be a long term deal.

Now, I am an old school gamer. Been playing mmo's, rpg's, and related since the 1980's (giving away my age a bit there :P). Rift -in my opinion- has been quite enjoyable. One of the better aspects of the game is the fact that you actually have some of the developers on the forums (or in-game) on occasion. Since I am leaving, thought I would toss a few ideas out there, as I do feel certain things should be done if the want to prevent Rift from simply disappearing in the next few years.

1) Take some time off from making new material and fix the old glitches/bugs. New material is great, so don't get me wrong there. But, it is coming at the expense of quality. As you add more and more stuff, old issues seem to get forgotten. There is absolutely nothing wrong with ensuring the overall quality of the game. A serious, directed run at fixing these old issues would be highly appreciated by your community and would certainly make an impression on other gamers.

2) While you are at it, update that game engine. Not only would this fix some of the issues, this would optimize the game for today's computers. I understand that would be intensive and time-consuming, it would also allow Rift to become and stay the standard form mmo's. RIght now, you have been developing more content that requires multiple players interating together as well as being highly graphics intensive, and it is painfully obvious that the game's engine just can't handle it properly on anything but more upper to high end machines, which is kinda sad for a game as far along in its age as Rift is. This really should be considered, as once again, fixing this would seriously start bringing players back into RIft.

3) Start making old content relevant again. With the way the game is currently running, the old content is just there for someone to tour through once they have achieved max level. Once a player hits level 10, they can quickly level up through other means. While there are a few players (like I was) who enjoyed leveling the old-fashioned way, there are far far more who avoid regular old questing. Not sure how you can do it, but it would be good for the overall longevity of the game if you were to make the old world relevant again.

4) If you ever do decide that Rift if going to pass it's time as an mmo, definitely do some conversion and make it into a single player game. This pretty much stands as is, as I am certain that there are many players out there that would love to be able to play Rift, even as a single player. Might make it a bit interesting on how to convert raids, as well as some of the boss mechanics, but it would give Rift a new life.

5) Try to find a better pvp balance. Let's face it, issues exist there, no question. One thing that would truly make players happy is true pvp gear coming back. And by "true" I mean gear that is essentially not-helpful in pve content.

6) Work with the community more directly. Wouldn't be a bad idea to find some of the more prominent players in the game and form a small committee deal. They can help out but pointing out things you may have missed, testing ideas, and so on. May help take some of the load off your back. This would be a natural extension of your pts server, only you have a more official group giving a hand.

Well, guess it's time to go. I wouldn't be surprised if one or more ideas are already being tried out, but just wanted to add something before I head out back into the real-world. It's been fun, and will miss trying out all the different build ideas I used to do ^.^

Til we meet again.

Well, time to go. I certainly wish everyone luck hunting, questing and so on
