As a preface, I would like to state my reasons and intentions for this thread.
I am not just ragequitting, and this is not really a new development. But I like this community, and I even like the dev team, so I feel a respectful, constructive commentary of why I am leaving (or rather, already left) is in order. The objective is to leave a parting present (not the bad kind) in the hopes that the devs can take advantage and improve the game.
The long story short, is that a while ago the game stopped being fun. And for a while that was okay, I was not employed, I had time to kill, and so things to occupy that time were fine. That is no longer the case, and Rift has failed to captivate me to keep me on board.
For some time I was logging in just to cycle minions and do crafting dailies, and lately I have ceased even that. I logged in every day of Autumn Harvest, and I think doing those chores is what finally killed my interest.
So, anyway, reasons that I think were contributing factors to this:
-The game has failed to be optimized for slightly old computers. Feature creep I think has continually bogged down the game, and I notice Rift runs for me much slower now then when I first started. Margle Palace in particular was unbearable. But even Meridian is lagging for me now.
-Being pestered with ads on login is a nuisance and effective deterrent for someone logging in to do "chores" out of a sense of habit. The general decline into P2W in general has been a disappointment to watch.
-Mismanagement of game economics - though, honestly, I couldn't tell you if this was fixed or not, I more or less stopped paying attention after the price of REX topped 2000p.
-PVP being destroyed. I led a lot of CQ's back in Storm Legion, and it was an amazing time. But 3.0 brought changes that, over time, killed PVP, and killed my interest in a major part of why I played. CQ started seeing a resurgence in recent days (as far as I know, last time I played was months ago), but it was already dead for me. I actually miss Steppes as well, funny as that sounds. Having a second map, even one that was as poorly designed as Steppes, just helped to break up the monotony. The failure to introduce a new CQ after so long a time frame since 3.0 launched demonstrates a total lack of interest in maintaining what was once a huge selling point of the game - no other game on the market had anything like CQ. You really, really dropped the ball on that one.
So, idunno. That's basically it. The game stopped being fun. The stuff I loved was taken out, and nothing was added to fill the voids left behind. There were some ups here and there (I ended my boycott because of how awesome the wardrobe update was), but it just wasn't enough.
So that's why I've already left.
Will I be back? Maybe. The ball is in your court to make this a captivating game again. Make it feel like I'm not just here to give you a cut of my paycheck to stay competitive. Make it fun again.
But for now, I felt I would at least leave my thoughts as to why I must find other things to do with my precious little free time. Sorry it came down to this.
