Stupid question probably, but what do I need to buy to be up to day?

Technically speaking, you don't *need* to buy anything to play Rift but if you want to rush to 60 to get to 65 quickly you can buy an Instant 60 potion OR at least the Nightmare Tide Infusion Edition pack for a lvl60 instant potion as well as unlocking planewalker:water ( to wear some end-gears) and earring slots( to... well.. wear earrings.) But if you don't need the instant 60, I suggest getting the cheaper Typhoon Edition pack instead.

Aside from that, Storm Legion and Dream Souls if you do not have them yet to gain access to the 2 locked specs for your class which will most likely be needed if you plan on raiding. (Like for example, for warriors, it unlocks tempest - one of the best ST ranged specs - and liberator - our only healing spec)

That's about it I think. If you want to take it further in the gearing boost, buy t1/t2 gear with credits, although I wouldn't really recommend it as it isn't really that hard to get gear for raiding, plus cheaper.
